שיחות הר״ן · אות כ״א

בראש השנה צריכין להיות חכם, שיחשוב רק מחשבות טובות, שייטיב השם יתברך עמנו וכו'. וצריכין להיות שמח בראש השנה. גם צריכים לבכות בראש השנה. בראש השנה ביום הראשון צריכין למעט בדיבור מאד מאד. ואמר שאדם גדול צריך לדקדק בזה ביותר, ועל כן הוא אינו אומר ביום הראשון אפילו הפייט רק מה שיסד רבי אליעזר הקליר אבל שאר הפייט אינו אומר, מחמת שאדם גדול צריך לדקדק אז ביותר לבלי לדבר שום דיבור שאינו מוכרח:
