עַל־יְדֵי חֲלִישׁוּת הַלֵּב נוֹפְלִים פְּחָדִים עָלָיו. כִּי הַגִּבּוֹר אֵין לוֹ שׁוּם פַּחַד, וְעִקָּר הַגְּבוּרָה הוּא בַּלֵּב, דְּהַיְנוּ מִי שֶׁלִּבּוֹ חָזָק, אֵינוֹ מִתְיָרֵא מִשּׁוּם דָּבָר, וְרָץ לְתוֹךְ קִשְׁרֵי הַמִּלְחָמָה, וּמִתְגַּבֵּר עַל־יְדֵי חֹזֶק וְאֹמֶץ לִבּוֹ. וְכֵן לְהֵפֶךְ, רַכֵּי־לֵבָב הֵם מִתְפַּחֲדִים. וְזֶה שֶׁכָּתוּב (דברים כ׳:ח׳): אִישׁ הַיָּרֵא וְרַךְ הַלֵּבָב, פֵּרֵשׁ רַשִׁ"י: הַיָּרֵא וְכוּ', כִּי עַל־יְדֵי רַךְ־לֵבָב, עַל־יְדֵי־זֶה הוּא מִתְיָרֵא, כַּנַּ"ל:
